Storyline
“The Long Shadow” is a compassionate portrayal of those who crossed paths with Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper. The series draws inspiration from Michael Bilton’s book, “Wicked Beyond Belief” and sheds light on the impact of Sutcliffe’s crimes on families and survivors. It also explores the parallels between his crimes and other tragic events in history.
The series starts with the murder of Wilma McCann in October 1975. Sydney Jackson and his wife Emily become tragic victims of Sutcliffe’s killing spree. As the series unfolds, the largest manhunt in Britain begins, but the investigation is hindered by misogynistic attitudes among some detectives. DCS Dennis Hoban takes on the case and Sutcliffe is finally captured in 1981.
